Laurel Park Whirlwinds 2 Ashridge Park 2

Ashridge Scorer: Reg Ryan (1', 38')
Star Player: Joe Savory

Only a brief report this week due to the absence of your usual correspondent from the game!

Ashridge made the second of three successive trips to Laurel Park this week to face the lowest-placed of the three teams from that club in our division. Due to the weather this was the first time we had met this season. We had only 11 available for the game, with defensive rock James Riley joining Jamie on the injury list, and Alex and Antonio also missing due to other commitments.

Despite this the visitors made the best possible start, taking the lead in the opening minute when a through-ball from Dan caused havoc in the home ranks, allowing Reg to slot home. By half-time the home side had struck back, equalising with a looping shot from outside the box, before taking the lead with a scrappy affair of a goal.

Ashridge restored parity within three minutes of the second period as Reg notched his second of the game and 27th of the season; this one a solo effort, taking the ball into the box, holding off the defenders before scoring from what looked an impossible angle. Dan and Reg both had efforts narrowly wide in the last five minutes as Ashridge looked to grab a late winner.

A strong team performance, but the star award goes to Joe, who pulled off some amazing saves to keep us level. Thanks to Nick Baker for running the team today. Back to the same venue once again next week for our last game of the season, when we take on the current leaders of the division.
