Ashridge Park Royals U18 6 (Bourne 2, Edwards 2, Gozzard, Claridge) Bracknell Town 3

For the first time since becoming an 11 aside team, we played this home match in the unfamiliar environs of Cantley Park After the woodwork frenzy of the previous match, it was very much déjà vu when Ben C’s looping shot rattled the Bracknell bar within the first 2 minutes.  Fortunately this was not the precursor to a repeat of last week’s 0-0 deadlock, as, a minute later, Ben C’s cross was expertly headed in by Alex at the far post.  3 minutes later a defensive mix-up enabled Dom to double the advantage, and then on 18 minutes the same player converted a penalty given for handball to increase the lead to 3-0.

Peter was called into action in goal, and was equal to the task, making a fine double save from a dangerous looking attack.  Dom was unfortunate not to seal a first half hat-trick when he half volley from 2 yards out somehow cannoned against the bar on 37 minutes. A minute later it was Adam’s turn to get off the mark with a superlative 20 yard shot into the roof of the net. 4-0 at half time.

With the half time departure of Ted and Dom, we were down to a bare 11 players, and when Ben C converted a 51st minute penalty this did not appear to be a problem. However, Ben was soon taken off with an ankle injury, which gave the visitors some momentum, indeed they managed to pull the score back to 5-3, causing some consternation in the Ashridge ranks.  Fortunately, with 6 minutes left, a pin-point cross by Adam was converted by Alex to calm everyone’s nerves and seal a 6-3 victory
